Our Worship...
We are an Episcopal/Anglican congregation. As such, we worship in accordance with the 1979 Book of Common
Prayer (BCP), noting that as we pray, so we believe. We believe the Nicene
Creed as a sufficient statement of Christian essentials. We also have high
regard for the Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral as well as the 39 Articles
of Religion. Foremost, we believe the Holy Scriptures to be the revealed
Word of God.
If you are familiar with Anglican/Episcopal worship, our parish embraces and celebrates the diversity of traditional worship that is available through the prayer book. Generally speaking, the parish is known for catholic ceremony (sometimes known as 'high-church') combined with evangelical preaching and
teaching. We alternate between Rite I (Advent, Lent & a period of time in the Summer) and Rite II. During August, our services are "Low Church."
The principal act of worship at the Good Shepherd is the Holy Eucharist, also known as the Mass, the Holy Communion or the Lord's Supper. Regardless of your Christian denomination, if you have been baptized with water, in the name of the Trinity, we invite you receive communion at the Lord's table. If you have not been baptized, or do not wish to receive communion, you are invited to come and receive a blessing.
On Saturday evenings (September - June) we celebrate the Holy Euchairst together at 5:00PM. This is a quiet, contemplative, service without music or chanting.
On Sunday mornings we worship at 10:30AM. On most Sundays, this is a celebration of the Holy Eucharist with music. We use The Hymnal (1982) as our hymnbook. Our church is a member of the Royal School of Church Music. Unless it is a major feast day, on the third Sunday of the month we use the service of Morning Prayer. Our children participate in Children's Chapel beginning at 10:30AM. At the conclusion of this service, the children join us in the church for the remainder of the Eucharist.
On Wednesday mornings (September - June) we come together for our healing service at 11:00AM. This is a celebration of the Holy Eucharist with the laying on of hands and annointing for healing.
In addition to these services, we observe all major feast days of the church. When a feast day falls on a weekday, our service usually begins at 7:00PM
